  14. <p>     DIED. Arthur Hardy, 78, psychiatrist who pioneered treatment
  15. for agoraphobia, the fear of going out-of-doors; of cancer; in
  16. Menlo Park, Calif. In the early 1960s Hardy broke with classical
  17. Freudian approaches for treating people suffering from an
  18. abnormal fear of being in open or public places. He renamed the
  19. disorder territorial apprehension. Hardy paid house calls in
  20. which he used relaxation techniques, assertiveness training and
  21. other behavioral methods to help cure patients of their
  22. anxieties.
